More information: It’s been described as the best Neo Prog album of the last 20 years, and standing comparison with the genre defining best albums by Marillion, Twelfth Night IQ, Pendragon, Pallas et all by others, but to the band CREDO, RHETORIC will always be viewed as “the difficult second album” being released eleven years to the day after their first. And the album that smashed down the barriers and finally enabled the band to reach the global audience their music deserved with international sales and live dates.
The roots of CREDO go back many years, way back to the classic rock bands of the 70’s, but the band we now know as CREDO came into being in the early 90’s when Mark Colton (Ex Casual Affair and Freewill) joined an unnamed band with Tim Birrell (Guitar) and Jim Murdoch (Bass and Backing vocals).
The first CREDO album was released amongst the grunge and glam metal days of 1994, but sold well and introduced the band to a vibrant underground Prog scene, drummers and keyboard players left and Mike Varty (Landmarq, DeeExpus, Janison Edge, Shadowland & Mick Pointer’s Marillion) joined on Keys, violin and backing vocals. RHETORIC exploded onto the Prog Scene in September 2005 hittng top spot in a congested release schedule by many of the “name” bands.
The album is rightly lauded as a classic, and despite being out of print for a number of years still regularly appears in Top Ten Best lists and has been seen changing hands for huge amounts on Ebay. With the imminent release of a new studio album to follow up the double live and equally lauded studio album “AGAINST REASON” the time is right to remind the world of the power and majesty that is RHETORIC and enable latecomers to CREDO to fill the gap in their collections.
