More information: The second album by Chimpan A, The Empathy Machine, finally gets released after 14 years in the making. The core of the band are vocalist Steve Balsamo (Balsamo Deighton, Jesus Christ Superstar, Eric Woolfson) and multi-instrumentalist Robert Reed (Magenta, Sanctuary, Kompendium). The album follows their self-titled debut album, released in 2006.
So, what is the Empathy Machine? Steve Balsamo: 'It might be a machine in the future that will be able to record how we're feeling. That was the main theme'. Rob Reed: 'It's a form of virtual reality that can mess with your whole way of thinking, and can bring up your deepest, darkest desires. Digitally!'.
